SOUTH Fremantle won today's West Australian Football League Grand Final, defeating defending premiers Subiaco by 18 points at Subiaco Oval 17.11 (113) to 13.17 (95).
The Lions kicked the first goal of the game through Trent Dennis-Lane, who finished with four, but South Fremantle were in front at every change after that, taking an 11-point buffer into quarter-time with a 5.3 (33) to 3.4 (22) scoreline.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to three goals before half time, taking an 8.8 (56) to 5.8 (38) lead into the main break before dominating the third term with seven goals to one.
Subiaco fought back in the fourth quarter with six goals to two, but it was too little too late from the defending premiers, who fell short by 18 points despite the spirited come-back.

South Fremantle's Callum Wilson lead the way on the scoreboard with five goals, while Theo Adams, Gerard Wilkie and Paul Mugambwa booted two each for the 2009 premiers.
Subiaco were spearheaded by four goals from Trent Dennis-Lane, while Ben Keevers was the only other multiple goalscorer with two.
The Simpson Medal was awarded to South Fremantle's Ashton Hams who had 17 kicks, 11 handballs and 14 marks in an outstanding performance for the winners.

IT WAS THE 'CHRIS MAINWARRING TRIBUTE MATCH' FOR TELETHON, THE WA KIDDIES HOSPITAL CHARITY. OVER 30,000 SPECTATORS WENT.

STURTGIRL AND I RECKON HE PLAYED WELL, STILL GOT QUICK HANDS. HE'S ALSO BEEN IN A VERY GOOD PADOCK. CH 7 HAD HIM MIKED UP, AND IN BETWEEN THE HUFFING AND PUFFING WAS HIS USUAL COMIC SELF.

THE CONCEPT IS EX WC EAGLES V'S INVITED OTHERS.
THE OLD EAGLES ARE CALLED THE 'OWLS' (OLDER WEAKER LARGER SLOWER) AND THIS YEAR PLAYED 'CONNERLYS COMANDOS', COACHED BY CHRIS CONNERLY. NAMES FOR CONNERLYS SIDE INCLUDED DIPPER, MODRA, TERRY DANNIHER, JARS, TONY MCGUINESS, DOUGIE HAWKINS AND STACKS OTHERS. IT WAS A GOOD GAME, THE OWLS WON BY 1 POINT (SUPRISE).
