REDS SIGN NEW MANAGER

Post by the sarge on Sat 03 Jul 2010, 4:38 pm

Liverpool FC have formally announced the appointment of Roy Hodgson as new manager.

The 62-year-old former Fulham, Inter Milan and Switzerland manager has agreed terms with the club on a three-year contract and becomes the 18th manager in Anfield history.
He will be unveiled this afternoon after overseeing the first day of pre-season training at Melwood.
Hodgson joins from Fulham, where he guided the Cottagers to the Europa League final in May and was voted Manager of the Year by the League Managers' Association.
He said: "This is the biggest job in club football and I'm honoured to be taking on the role of manager of Britain's most successful football club.
"I look forward to meeting the players and the supporters and getting down to work at Melwood."

The man who turned Fulham's fortunes around is now set to begin a new era at Anfield but rather than leaving all the familiar faces behind, he is rumored to be very interested in keeping at least two of them around.

According to the Daily Mail, Hodgson will bring Fulham duo Brede Hangeland and Danny Murphy with him to Merseyside. While Hangeland will be testing his defensive skills for one of the top prestigious clubs for the first time in his career, Murphy appears to be set for a second stint with the Reds.
Hodgson is also said to be pursuing a defensive midfielder to replace Barcelona-bound Javier Mascherano. Former Arsenal veteran Gilberto Silva is being lined up for a return to the Premier League following his impressive form for both Panathinaikos and Brazil. Since Gilberto's services wouldn't cost an awful lot due to the financial crisis in Greece, Liverpool should also be able to complete the signing of Rafael van der Vaart from Real Madrid.
The Dutch midfielder has been used sparingly by the La Liga outfit and as Jose Mourinho prepares to ring in some changes of his own at the Bernabeu, the path will finally become clear for van der Vaart to complete a long-awaited move to England.
With Serbian Milan Jovanovic already confirmed as a Reds player for the next season, the future only looks brighter for a Liverpool side that has experienced nothing but disappointment in the last twelve months.

A new coach with maybe a few new players and a positive outlook maybe just what they need to go into a new season.

Sarge...it's not the qualities of the trophies...it's how many is in the cabinet...you may have 18 league titles etc. but with the Toon becoming a yo-yo club, we're guaranteed a trophy every 2 years! Jokes... cheers

Reports today say that Liverpool have a Chinese billionaire interested in taking over the club. Newcastle look like they could have a long season as the squad looks quite poor and Hughton as manager out of his depth. Blackpool are guaranteed to have one of the relegation positions sewn up so they might survive as you can never tell if any clubs are going to implode financially like Portsmouth and Hull.
