Sunderland vs Birmingham City
This should be a bruising encounter with Sunderland looking to improve on an inconsistent last season which saw them play well against some very good teams but falter against the teams below them. Birmingham was the surprise package of last season and will look to continue their efficient style of football that served them so well. Kenwyne Jones (who left for Stoke in the off season) is a big loss that the rest of the Sunderland side and most notably fellow striker Darren Bent will have to deal with. Nikola Zigic on the other hand should bolster Birmingham’s forward stocks and provide a good target.
