This is precicely why I said it just seems to be an unhealthy process borrowing money time after time that has to be payed back at some stage.

Re: Port news!!
Well it can certainly turn around , Sturt anticipate being debt free next year which will be the first time in a very very very long time. Half a million paid off in debts this year and things looking very strong financially for the club . Some big things on the radar as well. Was nnot that many years ago the club borrowed heavily for Barzaar and Castle Plaza licence.

Re: Port news!!
I went down to the Prince today and was told revenue in the front bar and dining room is up. They are holding alot of functions in the bar and the dinning room has been full 4 nights this week. Tomorrow after the game is full and I know a few that have missed out. revenue is up 200% (can not say the actual amount I was told) . The gaming room however is startign to decline due to machines being old. They have somem good ideas for the off season as well to keep people going there.

That is fine. the main issue I have is they are using the idea of it is needed to save the Magpies.
They say that they will have one membership package for all members (in todays paper) which shuts many supporters out. I know alot of people who will leave and those are the ones at every game. But that is what everyone that supports this wants one Port community. To do that you can't have the three groups of supporters
1 Magpies only
2 Both
3 Power only
There are People that have come onto the Magpies in the last 13 years who did not support us previously what happens to these. IF you want this merger you do not want these supporter. this is nothing personal.

For me it's a simple analogy, for 100s of years there were Germans. Then for 40 years there were East and West Germans. Now after the reunification (Merger) they are Germans again.

Spot on beenreal. One club. One membership package. If you don't like the Power, go watch the Magpies and vice versa. You share the creed, you share history, you share the oval, the Mapgies personnel set up the Power. Let's stop the whinging cause it's a load of BS IMO, stop the bleeding and just do what makes sense and in the best interests of both parties.
Otherwise, go die in a hole. Simple.

couldnt agree more....time to get over this whole argument, honestly its like the chicken and egg, who came first??.....for me its simple Port adelaide created the Power and inturn the maggies both share the history, the creed and culture of the club..........for me its one club with two team.........i do agree that becuase you follow the maggies doesnt mean you follow the Power and vice versa...but for the sake of both clubs this issue has to be resolved of face extinction................yes if they merge there will be some pain but there will be a hell of a lot more gain in the long run...........

Re: Port news!!
Just also want to make the point that I'm not solely pointing the finger at Port Adelaide, but the whole football community. As stated before many SANFL supporters feel that we would become another amatuerish league without Port. So, to those in charge of the game, stop standing in their fricking way, come to a compromise or find yourself joining Centrelink lines as you'll all be out of a job. (No offence meant to those who already do stand in C/L lines!)

Re: Port news!!
You will have to follow both as there will be one membership package. Why would people who follow only one want that???
Another fact is last time they said we will not be a reseres side but this time that is what is happening.
Look I know people want this and why they would but for both to grwo they need to be able to pull in and retain supporters who do not. A merger will de the opposite of this and in tern destry the league with AFL sides having teams in it.
It was also nice to hear another side of the debate yesterday with people who do follow both not wanting it becasue of the supporters and members it will turn away. They instead suggested the Power offer some deal where discounts apply to membership when you join them and any SANFL club. Great way to gain some fans and can not be done if you are merged with the Magpies
And to reply to another statement do whjat is best for both parties. This deal is best for the Power and nothing yet has come out that suggests it will be good for the Magpies.
The Magpies have the money to survive. They club only rweally needs one more year of strugling to be start to be strong again both on and off.
For the Power I know it is hard to admit and to do but get teh cans out start collecting money like the Magpies and so many other clubs have had to do. If that means less for the Magpies then so be it we will survive.

Re: Port news!!
A Magpies supporter told me yesterday the Tim Ginevar has put his business on the line to support the Magpies. I hope all goes well for him as he is a genuine person who wants to do everything he can for his club.
Person said the Players held their own fundraising to pay for their end of season trip and were extremely successful. Maybe someone should sign up these organisers onto the PAM marketing team, as I heard it was so successful the players are only chipping in $200 each to top up the real cost for them to go to Bali.

There are some good points you make Lynny and I agree with some of them but IMHO the fact of the matter is that the SANFL should have let Port Adelaide go to the AFL and left it at that. The fact is Port Adelaide wanted to join the biggest/highest competition in the nation, which they have done, but the SANFL insisted on the creation, for want of a better word, of this 'impostor' club for the benefit of the competition. I think people for the last decade have been crying out 'Will the real Port Adelaide please stand up??' and for both to do that is just really, really stupid IMO.
