An exciting end to the minor round
An exciting end to the minor round
Simply put...Westies must beat Norwood and rely on the Eagles to defeat Sturt...both Norwood and the Eagles are looking for 3rd spot and possibly Sturt as well if the cards fall thier way. From what i hear the Eagles v Sturt game is on the ABC with live crossovers to Norwood during the day...
Bring it on and i hope we get great crowds at all of the SANFL games now that the Cows and Powder are finished.

The ABC is listed as doing the Eagles v Sturt game on Sunday in todays paper, certainly is a terrific ending to the seasons minor round.

The thing that gets me is I have not seen any increase in advertising for this round. They may for the finals but for the clubs with a chance at the 5 the finals start this week. A final round open like this is great for any league adn they would be stupid not to tak advantage of it.
Re: An exciting end to the minor round
I can't remember a final minor round where there has been so much on the line for a lot of clubs. Who would have picked this at the start of the season??

Spoilt by absolute crap weather . Over 2200 at Alberton yet only the same at Eliazabeth. ????? One clash meant the minor premiership and the other meant nothing. Strange ?

I feel it sums up the SANFL as a competition the football public are interested in.
Allowing for todays shirty weather its about the normal numbers for a game in the SANFL, we all know the Crows people only turn up if the weather is fine and mild, and of course if the Crows have a chance of winning, so you wouldnt expect them to lower them selves and go to the footy when the Crows are not involved, and of course the Power people have turned their noses down if the black and white and other colours they care to add to the uniform have not a chance of winning or being competitive.
CONGRATULATIONS to all the SANFL supporters that attended today's matches.
And as for me, well we had the bye, our season finished after round 3, and it was wet, so i think I deserved to stay home for a change on a Saturday and try and do something useful around the place.
Thank God for the rain.
Re: An exciting end to the minor round
Not sure about that , give 2 traditional crowd pulling sides and the crowds are good. Nearly 6000 at the Bay last week and the reported crowd at Unley was way off and was at least 4500.Sturt annd Norwood got 4000( Fri night) on a disgraceful day and night.(probably 7000 if reasonable weather) Port still got a reasonable crowd for a game that meant nothing and their future is in doubt . This year the weather has been at its worst for many years and I think the crowds might be slightly up ,not certain though. I think the issuue is the sides that can draw a big home crowd dont travel and the main culprit is Glenelg fans.

A bit harsh but I would understand why they would want to leave their BMWs and Mercs under the garage looking at today's weather...plus they would stand out a bit in Holden territory! :face:

Not sure it's harsh , seems to me their home crowds are great so why doesnt that translate to the other teams home game ?

S2, your more than likely right.
Maybe i'm just used to seeing matches where the crowds are low at home matches and not much better at away games because of our drawing power.
I also have a theory, that is if you live on the other side of South Terrace, then a trip to Elizabeth is out of the question for those supporters.
Re: An exciting end to the minor round
Yes Southh do have a low supporter base but I think you willfinnd your attendances at home are on the up so thats a start.
I actually really see a turn around coming for South. But they would want to start working the zone better and at a lower level, not club.
