Your 4x4 Trucks
Your 4x4 Trucks
OK so I include 4x4s in motoring, contrary to some points of view out there in the media.
Anybody got a 4x4 and what do you like about it?
What mods have you done and can recommend.
My missus bought a new Toyota for her birthday the other day.
Being a Nissan driver myself, I said how am I going to explain that to my other Nissan Patrol mate?
Nissan v Toyota in 4wds is like Ford v Holden in cars.
However, she then explained she brought it inside in the box.
..........It's a sewing machine!!!
Who knew Toyota made sewing machines longer than they have made cars?
Not me!

Re: Your 4x4 Trucks
Interestingly this is what they did before WW2, the motoring came along afterwards!
Co-incedently, White Trucks were also started as a Sewing Machine company! - White Trucks are now Western Star who for whatever reason own a Butter Company as well as a Truck Manufacturing plant, to digress, Western Star are also owned by an Aussie from Qld!
I have never owned a 4WD, yet have noticed that Mitsubishi seem to be getting a lot more popular, for myself I liked the 4WD Mitsubishi Van - Spacia?. Although I would say that I am very much a fan of the Subaru Brumby Ute!

Re: Your 4x4 Trucks
We had a 1993 Suzuki Vitara with 4WD mode. Did a pretty good job. Not that we went off road that much, just the dirt road you can get up here in the country places. But it did well in the wet. Problem was we never used it enough for 4wd.
A mate of mine had a Subaru Forrester and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately a couple of his mates rolled it on a long drive back from Perth across the Nullabor. Lucky for insurance. But taking into depreciation he was only given enough to buy a Commodore wagon!

That's my car!
Just without the red and blue GT stripes I put on it!
I was a bit "out there" in 1983 when I had it.

Lightburn Made a car that was released in 1963 called the Lightburn Zeta at a starting price of 595 pounds. The car was built in the washing machine factory at Camden Park.
The production of the cars ceased in 1966 with the total number sold less than 400

Re: Your 4x4 Trucks
Looking back on this thread it was meant to be about big ballsy trucks with lots of metal, lighting, monster rubber and other stuff related thereto.
....And we somehow ended up with a Lightburn Zeta!

Re: Your 4x4 Trucks
We're looking into buying a 4x4 ute/truck.
I've narrowed it down to a Nissan Navara or an Isuzu D-Max. Coming in 3rd place would be a Toyota Hilux.
Anyone got any thoughts/tips/previous experience with any of these models?

Re: Your 4x4 Trucks
Hmm....
There is a 4wd action DVD from a few years ago that rated the top 6 dual cab utes.
The top placegetter was the Mazda BT-something or other (50?) followed by the ford Ranger (which was essentially the same engine spec and drivetrain).
The Nissan is popular and I know people who love it.
Hopefully the underbody protection has been improved since the 4wd Action test. Although this can be added at not a significant cost.
Hilux always seems on the high $$ end of the market but with proven reliability.
A guy at work has just bought the D-max. Not much different to the Holden colorado in body. However, I thought the engine is differently specd.
Actually have one at work which is the Colorado and one that is the D-Max.
Almost the same in look other than slightly different headlights.
If you are keen on the Nissan and Isuzu, the only thing I would consider between them is that there are more Nissan dealers and parts around than perhaps the Isuzu.
....but then I am a Nissan Patrol owner. - biased of course!
