Whyalla Basketball

Post by howthewestwaswon on Tue 16 Nov 2010, 5:13 pm

I'm not going to make this another updated post but it seems I made the local rag up here (a brief one-liner). I was a little surprised as I have been mentioned in the Sunday Mail SAAFL results column before, but never in a 'real article'.

Summer basketball season starts again

Men's A Grade

Summer season has started again and there has been a few changes which should make the season a competitive one.

Wildcats have lost big Ben Whittaker and haven't replaced him as the team is rotating juniors through the bench to give them an opportunity to taste A grade basketball.

Bevan1 lost Jordan Coughlan, who has been an outstanding player since arriving in Whyalla and will be a big loss.

Bevan1 also lost Reg Harris who has moved out of town.

On the plus side, Bevan1 has picked up a bit of pace to go with its ageing list by getting Mitchell Gurnett and Wesley McLean from Wildcats.

Demons has been the big recruiter getting Anthony Baxter, Alan Marks and Chris Hnarakis with the inclusion of Kane Smyth.

But Demons has lost Jason Cole to injury and Jacob Mills has stopped playing.

With these inclusions, Demons should be the big improvers this season.

Bevan2 has added Matt Holmes, Steven Hallam and Kenny Hampton and welcomed back Mark Boston and with no losses, should make this team stronger and push the top teams even more this season.

Titans has added Alex T to its youthful team.

During the past couple of seasons Titans has been rebuilding with youth and has shown rapid improvement, which we hope continues this season.

Summing up, Wildcats will be the team to beat again this year, but with some of the recruits and improvement in other teams, it should be a tough and close season again.

Current Men's A Grade Table

Bevan 2 - P7, W6
Wildcats - P6, W4-D1
Bevan 1 - P6, W3-D1
Demons - P7, W2
Titans - P6, W0

A disappointing season so far at the half-way mark. Hoping to grind out that 1st win soon!
