WEBER KETTLE

Post by howthewestwaswon on Sun 26 Dec 2010, 10:14 pm

I managed to score a beaut Weber silver kettle for Christmas from the family. I survived my lack of knowledge and managed to smoke a great ham which everyone enjoyed for lunch.

I'm keen to read and try-out other posters' never-fail kettle recipes if you're willing to share them!! Very Happy Very Happy

If you can get hold of a whole Snapper, shove some sliced onions and sliced tomatoes, perhaps a bit of garlic (that's if you like garlic) into the gut cavity and wrap it up whole in al foil .... a couple of hours later... yum yum .. Smile

Have very little experience with the Weber Kettle, yet have been told that the one good way to make them work is not to constantly open the lid as this stops it from working and extends the cooking time considerably.

I allways cook the christmas turkey in our webber and never had a complaint yet, nice and moist and the flavour is terrific. Also cook a pork as well in the webber.

I have one of the (now extinct) Webber Smoky Joes - the rectangular gas ones.

Have had it in my camping kit for 13 years and still going strong.

It can do anything - except leap tall buildings in a single bound.

You can do steak in it, roasts (albeit flattish ones - otherwise you pop the lid), toast, pizza, pies, tandoori chicken, whole fish, scones, bread etc etc.

A universal piece of camping kit it is.

Reckon it is in the twighlight of its life and I have never seen anything remotely close to replace it.

I shall be devastated when it leaves this world for the great BBQ in the sky.

Sounds like you haven't had a very good week chambo. What with Brant Chambers retiring from the double blues and your webber in its declining years I send my comiserations.

Weber still produce a little camper kettle under the name of 'Smokey Joes'. It might not be the same as your current one Chambo.

Same one, just not gas anymore.

Reckon it was the best unit they ever made.

Supposedly banned selling them in SA for some safety issue I never understood.

Really? Could always get a custom made replacement from an engineer I would think if the original decided to die.

There is also a mini type webber that goes by the name of George Foreman grilling machine which runs on gas for around $79.00.

I do have the answer for that Chambo--In mythology, a phoenix is an immortal bird that, when it dies, bursts into flames and is reborn from its own ashes. "To rise from the ashes of the phoenix" means to make a miraculous comeback. A little of subject I know.
