Gold Coast Suns

Post by Firstblood on Sun 03 Apr 2011, 11:43 am

Looks like a long year for the Gold Coast after getting belted by Carlton... when do they play Collingwood in Melbourne? Hate to think what that score might be. Evil or Very Mad

They are the new boys of the competition and have many young lads playing at AFL level for the first time and that was apparent big time against the mighty blues.

Like any new club that enters the comp. it will take time for them to become competitive and this time next year they may be able to beat the next new team in GWS.

It's like watching the Brissie Bears all over again...give them another 15 years or so to come good...

Don't know if they were injured, but I cannot believe they left Coad and Day out of the side.

There were many who preferred to respond to their opponents play, rather than make the contest themselves. Many who just "ball watched" rather than looking to where they should run.

Young buck rabbits dazzled in the headlights is the most appropriate phrase I can think of.

Chambo, not sure about Coad but I did hear from somewhere that Day was injured.

What interested me was their recruiting strategy of going largely for untried junior players of which they have an abundance. They were able to sign an uncontracted player from each club but chose not to get the full 16. Had they have picked up more of this type of player they likely would have had a better result, yet clearly they are focusing on a longer term strategy rather than trying the South Adelaide way of attempting to buy instant success via recruiting. Will be interesting to see what they do trade wise at the end of the season, I suggest that once they get a list of juniors that can play they will go looking for the more stronger developed type of player to take the club to the next level.

Poor Michael Coad.

After missing most of last season with injury, he will now miss 3 months with a hammy torn off the bone and needing surgery.

Perhaps the footy gods are telling him something.

Very bad luck for him.
Hopefully he bounces back to big things, but age will not help with these sort of injuries.

A good player who didn't need that in his first year and at his age, a bit like Callinan at the Cows, they both now have long term injuries in there first year at AFL level.

Well we didn't have to wait too long for the win.

The Power did a Crows and rolled over.

Even the kick after the siren was so far wide of the mark, was never going to be the Power fairytale ending.

I posted a thread here some entitled 'Mental Fragility'.

How often to do we see games decided on the fate of this doctrine.
Well I saw one at Richmond on Thursday night, and one today on the telly.

Probably a few more before the round is done.

Good luck to the Suns, fantastic finish and ran all over Port, small crowd of only 21,000 which again must be a concern.
