Well that will keep things interesting for one more year.
Maybe Centrals can ask for a salary cap concession.
Each to play half the year.
They can split the difference and wear number 24.5

The older you get the slower the mind and body reacts.Just ask F/b and myself,we were top specimens in our days of playing HARD COMPETITIVE FOOTBALL,but now we are slow old and useless just like the Gowans will be in 2012.LOL Very Happy Sink your teeth into that BIG PHIL.

lol!
Bundy...i think the Gowans are just a tad fitter than what we were at the age of 35 playing for Para Hills. We played when it was every man for themselves, tough and hard yes, quick and agile no, but you were good at holding up the bar, i'l give you that. Smile

Ditto

Like I keep saying, (and this is not meant to sound like a sledge) at this stage of their career, it isn't about how they play on the footy field, but more about how they influence others to play.

Maybe Roy has messed up in giving them one more season.

How much influence would they have if he made them both runners.
God help us all, it would be like having 2 extra players on the field.
I reckon this is their natural calling at this time of life.

That could almost get another 8 flags in 10 years.

My god, the thought of it!!!

Need to go away and give myself a good flogging for even thinking of this

Wink

They have ben great players for many years. James missed a number of mactches this yr. Only time will tell if they have gone on 1 year to long.

Thye have been excellent for the SANFL. Hope they don't play against West next yr

Ditto with the possible return of BC in a Double Blues jumper next year, if it eventuates.

I guess if anyone is doubting whether it is the right decision should look at who came 5th in your League B&F this year and ask yourself whether or not you'd expect them to play on again in season 2012. This is the case with Chris, he had a very good season, was selected in the 'State' team and had real impact on games throughout the season.

James, on the other hand, only played about 10 games because of a few niggling injuries, but when he did play in the league side, he played his part on most occassions that I can remember. I must admit that my initial thoughts where that it might be one season too many, but the influence they have on the other blokes out on the field can't be measured and if the two of them, and more importantly Kris Grant and Roy Laird still think they can contribute, then that's good enough for me.

With all due respect to anyone who posts an opinion on here (and whether or not I know you personally or not) I'm going to back the opinions of Roy and Kris over you good forum folk Smile Time will tell and it will be an interesting season no doubt for them.

I have a feeling this is the key point in them playing on. They may not be able to contribute like they have been in the last decade but sometimes just being on the field can lift others around them.

Need I mention Maradona for Argentina in 93 against the Socceroos as just one example?? Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I suspect BP that many people "hope" that its going to fall over because of the sheer number of beltings their own sides have had off the boots of the Gowans lads! Even if they both took a step backwards in fitness their capacity to read the play and break the zones of the other sides alone is worth having them on the side! - I did wish that Dean Brogan came back to South for a year instead of joining GWS, he would be one of the only players I could think of that might stand a chance going toe to toe with either of the Gowans lads!

Don't forget the Gowans' Roast is coming up in a couple of weeks and there are still tickets available through the club (RSVP by Monday 20/2/12 on 8255 2555) at $85 per person for a 3 course meal and 5 hour drinks package.

Guest speakers on the night will re-cap and share stories about their football journey and include their father, fellow players from Central over their journey, opposition players, coaches and even Umpires.

MC’d by Mark Soderstrom, it will be a very fun and enjoyable night for all in attendance. It should be one of the SANFL's most fun events of the year, but with a serious tribute side.

The event is being held at Findon to make it a central location for all people to attend and given the characters that are the Gowans Brothers (and their assistance with promoting the SANFL over the journey) the club sees this as an event not just for Doggies fans, but for anyone that follows SANFL footy.

There are already some people from other Clubs attending the night so it’s certainly open for everybody. Love them or hate them for their white line fever, the twins are certainly characters both on and off the field.

A great night had by all last night, plenty of laughs and the boys were very humbled by the 450 strong turn out...

Good to see Joe Pedler and Daryl Wintle there as well and well done to Mark Soderstrom who did a great job as MC...

The boys Dad Peter got plenty of laughs with his speech, as did their older brother Mark, while Daniel Healy, Matt Slade and Paul Thomas all had some funny stories to tell...

Well done to all who went and the club for arranging a great night...
