should 'switch hitting' be banned ?

Post by bayman on Mon 13 Feb 2012, 7:45 pm

while it looks great (when it comes off) i think batsmen should not be able to do it, the reason is firstly the field is set for say a right hand batsmen & he 'switches' the field is off beam, more important than that is the umpire tells the batsman eg 'right arm over' & he knows what the bowler is bowling, to my knowledge a bowler can't then 'switch arms' (yes very difficult but it has been done Ian Harvey) can he ?

what do you think ?

limiting a batsman's shot selection is not on.
It is high risk so, can easily be his downfall.
Was for Gilchrist a number of times.

Leave it be i think for now.
If there is an explosion of it, then redefine the 'wide' rule.

When a batsman does "switch" he is exposing his wicket so it is a huge risk to him.
If the ball is a straight one, the stumps wil be hit. It isn't a shot that is played very often, only in one dayers.
