Death of a champion

Post by Testy on Sat 02 May 2009, 9:01 am

Very sad news to hear of the death of Sunline, one of the greatest thoroughbred mares to ever race in this country. Sunline had to be humanely put down after a long battle with a hoof disease.

During her wonderful career she won 13 group one races and amassed prize money in excess of $11.3 million dollars.

Another two former thoroughbred racing champions died in this past week.

Vo Rogue was 28 years old, an incredible age for a horse. He died of old age. He won many of his races by going out in front and setting up a massive leads in his races and defying the opposition to catch him. He won in excess of $3,000,000 in stakes money. He was able to win over distances ranging from 1200 metres to 2000 metres.

Northerly was humanely euthanised at his breeders property in WA after suffering a colic attack, he was 15 years old, a very sad ending to one of the best going around in the early 2000s. He won in excess of $9.3 million.
He also won over distances of 1300 metres to 2000 metres.
