Re: NORTHERN AREAS FL
I posted this as I am fairly keen BMW supporter (absolutely nothing to do with the car) and keep posters up to date with another great country footy league.

Re: NORTHERN AREAS FL
Interesting to note how these clubs cope with ground sharing and how the finals are allocated to certain grounds every year. Something the SANFL should do with our suburban grounds (minus GF)??

Re: NORTHERN AREAS FL
Not really sure BK. All I know is this league is affliated to the Roosters. Not sure if many guys go back to the farm once they go down to Adelaide for a bit.

Re: NORTHERN AREAS FL
Wheelchair can't stop Joh
FOR Joh Duffield, walking again isn't good enough. His dream is one day to play footy again for his cherished Broughton-Mundoora - and just one more time will do.
Joh, 23, was left a quadriplegic in early 2005 after he dove into the shallow end of a friend's swimming pool and hit his head.
In the split-seconds afterwards, and for the first week of his ordeal, he remembers little outside the sense of not being able to move and his mates pulling him to safety.
But rather than let his restricted mobility crush his spirit, the former junior star with the Eagles in the Northern Areas Football Association has this year taken on coaching duties for the club's B Grade team.
And, as if that feat wasn't enough, Joh commanded Broughton-Mundoora to the reserves grand final against Booleroo-Melrose-Wilmington next Saturday, by outscoring Southern Flinders 14.5 (89) to 4.5 (29) in yesterday's preliminary final at Jamestown.
"I've never played in a grand final or been involved in a grand final, not even in juniors, so it'll be my first," Joh said.
"I've only ever played in one final, so now I've already coached twice as many as I've played in.
"We're pretty keen to have another crack at BMW. They're the team we lost to the other weekend, in the second semi. We've played them five times this year and only beaten them once, so they're our bogey side.
"We're pretty keen to get another crack at them. We reckon we've got them worked out."
The Eagles' 60-point victory yesterday came under clear blue skies in front of a crowd of more than 4000 people. In the thick of the on-field half time huddle, Joh handed out advice to his team, urging everyone to "go hard" - and they did.
Underachieving is not an option for Joh. The young Eagles star's football career was cut short as an 18-year-old, when surgeons were forced to fuse his vertebrae following the swimming accident 4 1/2 years ago.
He is paralysed from the waist down but has movement in his neck, arms and shoulders. He lives at home with his parents, Paul and Pauline, on their 570ha property just outside Port Broughton, on Yorke Peninsula, a 2 1/2-hour drive from Adelaide.
Duffield has injected a new level of professionalism into the B Grade competition, employing video reviews, statistics and a clear game plan for the team.
But for all his off-field success in his debut season as a full-time coach, Joh craves one more piece of on-field glory. "I'd love to play one more game," he said.
"It's a bit of a pipedream but you've got to have it. It keeps you sane. That was always the driving force in rehab. I always wanted to get back out and play footy.
"It's still in the back of my mind. It probably keeps going a bit further back each year, but it's always there.
"It still crosses my mind a fair bit. Especially when I first started coaching, I thought, 'S***, how do people do this?' I just wanted to get out there and play.
"Hopefully, one day something will happen and I'll be able to get back out there and play again. Even the last 20 years, things have come along a fair way with some of the stuff they're starting to do.
"Walk would be all right, but play footy - that would be the dream."
A great story coming out of this league. Unfortunately for Joh, his team comes up against mine this weekend in the B Grade Grand Final, so I won't be wishing him too much luck! GO LIONS!!
